Hopstep

Hop the neon highway. Draft the traffic.

How to Play Hopstep

Hopstep is a neon synthwave lane-crossing arcade. Your glowing hare starts at the bottom of a night-highway streaked with sedans, trucks, delivery vans, cyclists, and e-scooters scrolling left and right across staggered neon lanes. Tap an arrow key, swipe, or use the on-screen d-pad to hop one cell at a time — up, down, left, or right. Reach the glowing safe zone at the top without getting hit to clear a crossing, then the highway reshuffles and you go again.

The Slipstream Twist

Hopstep is not just dodging. Sit stationary in a lane right beside a vehicle as it roars past — without being hit — and you draft its Slipstream. The multiplier climbs the longer you hug fast traffic, up to roughly 2.5x. Clear the crossing while the meter is charged and you bank up to three bonus points on top of the base point. Play it safe for one point per crossing, or tailgate a truck for four. Classic mode is endless: each crossing re-randomises the lanes and gradually raises speed and lane count. Daily Challenge generates the same ten lane-sets for every player worldwide each calendar day — complete all ten on your first attempt to submit a leaderboard score.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I play Hopstep?
Use arrow keys, WASD, swipe, or the on-screen d-pad to hop your hare one cell in any direction. Dodge the vehicles in each lane and reach the glowing safe zone at the top to clear a crossing. Input is only consumed when the current hop animation finishes — one input, one hop.
What is the difference between Classic and Daily Challenge?
Classic mode gives an endless randomised highway — lanes shuffle and difficulty ramps after every crossing. Daily Challenge generates the same 10 lane-set configurations for all players worldwide each calendar day. First completion submits to the leaderboard; return visits are practice-only.
What is the Slipstream multiplier?
Slipstream is Hopstep's risk-reward twist. While you sit stationary in a lane close beside a passing vehicle without being hit, you draft its slipstream and the multiplier charges — the longer you hug traffic, the higher it climbs (up to about 2.5x). Clearing the crossing with the meter charged banks up to three bonus points on top of the base point. Safe play scores one per crossing; tailgating a truck can score four.
How does the speed ramp work?
Every crossing increases vehicle speed by roughly three percent, capped at 1.8 times the base speed. Lane count also grows from five up to nine as your crossing count climbs, so both the width of the highway and the pace of traffic increase together.
Does Hopstep work on mobile?
Yes. Swipe at least 20 pixels in any direction to hop. The on-screen d-pad (four arrow buttons) is also visible below the canvas. The canvas uses touch-action:none so your swipes never accidentally scroll the page.
