Run forward automatically through a three-lane track. Your job is to avoid obstacles and collect gems. Three obstacle types require different responses — jump over barriers, slide under archways, switch lanes around rocks. Fail to react in time and you lose a life. You start with three lives.
- Desktop: Left/Right Arrow or A/D to change lanes — Spacebar, W, or Up Arrow to jump — S or Down Arrow to slide
- Mobile: Swipe left/right to change lanes — Swipe up to jump — Swipe down to slide
Three Obstacle Types
- Barrier — a solid wall across the lane, waist height. Jump over it.
- Archway — a low overhead structure with an opening at the bottom. Slide under it.
- Rock — a ground-level object sitting in a single lane. Change lanes to avoid it.
The challenge is that each obstacle looks different but requires identifying the type before you're close enough to react automatically. Learning to read them at a distance — recognizing each shape the moment it appears in the far part of your field of view — is the core skill in Path Runner.
The Gem Economy
Gems fall along the track as you run. Collecting them serves two purposes: they add to your score, and they accumulate as currency for the in-game store. Between levels, you can visit the store and spend gems on Extra Lives (50 gems) or Score Boosts (30 gems).
The gem economy adds a resource management layer to what would otherwise be a pure reflex game. Players who collect gems efficiently — running the center lane where gem density is highest, spending wisely in the store — last longer and score more than players who ignore gems in favor of pure survival.
Three Visual Themes
The same obstacle patterns and procedural generation run under all three themes — the visuals change, the challenge doesn't. Completing levels is how you progress through the themes. Each theme creates a distinctly different atmosphere even though the gameplay mechanics remain identical.
Procedural Generation
Path Runner uses real-time procedural generation — the track is built ahead of you and destroyed behind you as you run. No two runs share the same obstacle sequence. The generation algorithm gradually increases difficulty across segments: early runs are spaced; later runs pack obstacles closer together and increase base speed. The combination means every session starts accessible and becomes genuinely demanding as it progresses.
Music and Sound
Both music and sound effects can be toggled independently in the Options menu before starting. If you're playing in an environment where audio isn't appropriate, the game is fully playable in silence — the visual cues alone are sufficient to read obstacles.
